The STI Data Platform for Africa is a portal for science, technology, and innovation indicators, as well as national STI policies and strategies from African Union (AU) member countries. It gives users access to the AOSTI and NEPAD STI datasets. It provides up-to-date statistical information on global scientific and technological trends in African countries to decision-makers in AU Member States and Regional Economic Communities (RECs)

R&D investment in most African countries is still below the African Union target of investing at least 1% of GDP. The public sector (governments and universities) is the main player and the private sector with low funding is not very active.
